Morris Mini Cooper MkII; 3
owners from new; matching numbers; 98,217 miles currently showing on the

First registered on
21st August 1968, this highly original Morris Mini Cooper MkII is a particularly
desirable example, having had just three owners from new and retaining its
original matching-number engine. Unlike the vast majority of MkII Minis, which
were Austin badged and built at Longbridge, this Morris was produced at Cowley
and retains its original Hydrolastic suspension.
The car was
acquired in November 2010 as a barn find following the death of its then owner,
John Halsall, having been stored for approximately 12 years. It was subsequently
sympathetically rebuilt during the winter of 2010/11, with the engine completely
rebuilt, the subframes removed and epoxy coated, and the underside similarly
treated. New front discs and pads were fitted, the Hydrolastic fluid changed and
the interior professionally refurbished with renewed upholstery and
carpets.
The restoration was completed
in 2011 at 91,597 miles, with invoices for the work and parts accompanying the
car. The current mileage stands at 98,217 miles.
The Cooper is
fitted with white Minilite-style alloy wheels and period tyres, although the
original steel wheels with chrome hub caps are also included. Particularly rare
and desirable spare Hydrolastic cones accompany the car, making this an
especially interesting package for the Mini
enthusiast.
The engine starts readily and,
once warm, shows an impressive 60psi oil pressure at idle. The car has recently
been driven and starts, runs and drives as expected, although the brakes would
benefit from some attention as they do not currently feel as efficient as one
would normally expect from a Cooper.
Remarkably clean and original
for its age and mileage, this genuine three-owner Morris Mini Cooper MkII offers
excellent provenance, desirable original features and an extensive history of
sympathetic restoration. With its matching-number engine, retained Hydrolastic
suspension and useful collection of original and rare spare parts, it represents
a particularly appealing opportunity for the serious Mini
enthusiast.
