Purchased by the vendor for private use
in early 2009 at just over three years old, this Land Rover Defender had covered
very little mileage and had just one previous owner. The vendor reports that it
was in excellent condition when purchased and has remained in similarly
impressive order throughout their 17-plus years of
ownership.
The original paintwork and panels are
said to remain in good condition, with only some minor touching up required to
the tailgate and rear load area to bring the vehicle closer to showroom
condition. The interior is also described as being in good
order.
The odometer currently displays 81,858
miles. The Defender is offered with an MOT valid until February 2027 and is
accompanied by 19 previous MOT certificates, nine service stamps, with the
latest service recorded at 77,204 miles, the owner's handbook and invoices
showing maintenance and work carried out over the years.
A towbar was fitted when the vendor moved from Dartmoor to
Gloucestershire, primarily for occasional light towing of a motorcycle trailer.
The Defender has never been used agriculturally, off-road or green-laning. An
Ifor Williams cover has been used to accommodate the vendor's gundogs and for
carrying loads to recycling which is included in the sale of the car.
The vehicle has been maintained to a high
standard, with mechanical work undertaken as required. Garage servicing was
reduced in recent years as the Defender has seen very little use, although the
vendor confirms that all necessary fluids and oils have been
maintained.
Numerous upgrades have been carried
out, including a snorkel, side runners, rear steps and upgraded steel wheels.
The spare wheel remains unused, while the front tyres were replaced only a few
thousand miles ago. The rear tyres remain in good condition, although minor
cracking has been noted as an MOT advisory.
Particular attention has been paid to the underside, with a full
underbody steam clean and Waxoyl treatment carried out in 2014 at 59,000 miles.
The vendor reports no chassis rust or body rot, with only minor cosmetic
attention potentially required around the tailgate screws and door
hinges.
Further expenditure includes new
headlamps and housings, a front radiator grille and driver's seat squab supplied
by Tim Fry Land Rovers of Cheltenham in 2023, together with a heated front
windscreen fitted the same year. A new Exide battery was fitted in September
2025 and a new Haynes workshop manual is included.
The vendor has thoroughly enjoyed the Defender for more than 17 years
but, with its use now largely limited to occasional outings, has decided it is
time for a new owner. An honest, cherished and notably unabused example of the
desirable TD5 Defender, it offers the opportunity to acquire a well-maintained
and highly usable modern classic with a fascinating history and a comprehensive
range of upgrades.
