1966 Mini Mk1 Cooper S
recreation; 1,380cc engine; restoration completed in March 2026, involving
approximately 1,200 hours of labour and love
DGL 94D was
purchased by the current vendor in 1990 from a local Mini enthusiast, already
prepared in rally specification. The car was used in several local road rallies
before being placed into dry storage when a Mk2 Rally Escort took precedence,
with the intention of returning the Mini to the road when time
allowed.
However, due to business
commitments running a busy Mini specialist business, combined with family life
and limited spare time, the Mini remained untouched in dry storage at the
vendor's premises until February 2025. Having semi-retired and with over 50
years of experience working with Minis, the vendor decided it was finally time
to undertake a sympathetic restoration.
The car was completely
dismantled and carefully assessed, with the aim of retaining as many original
components and body panels as possible. The restoration was completed in March
2026, involving approximately 1,200 hours of labour. Since completion, the Mini
has only been driven locally to a handful of car meets, where it has attracted
significant interest and admiration.
The vehicle was driven to the
auction venue and, while on site for photographs, started readily and performed
exactly as expected, driving and stopping without
issue.
Offered for sale only because
the vendor has a large collection of classic vehicles awaiting recommissioning,
alongside the funding requirements of a new garage build, this exceptional Mk1
Mini Cooper S replica is now available to a new custodian. The vendor currently
holds an agreed insurance valuation of £25,000, which is considered an accurate
reflection of the vehicle's value.
This Mini would make an ideal
weekend show car or could be adapted for use in classic motorsport events with a
few upgrades. The reserve price reflects both the authenticity of the
restoration and the dedication invested in creating this outstanding example of
a Mk1 Mini Cooper S replica, without the substantial cost associated with
purchasing an original Cooper S.
Included within the sale is a
comprehensive photographic history file documenting the restoration process,
together with pre-restoration photographs dating back to
1990.
