Description
Ground up rebuild by California Classics (Hull) Ltd in c.2016; covered
less than 3,000 miles since; recently serviced and put through an MOT in April
with no advisories
At first glance, this appears to be an
exceptionally smart MGB Roadster. Look closer, however, and it quickly becomes
clear that this is something rather more special.
Originally
a 1968 Roadster, the car had sadly deteriorated to such an extent that it
required complete reconstruction. Period photographs on file illustrate just how
poor its condition had become before it was entrusted to the renowned
specialists at California Classics (Hull) Ltd. Rather than carrying out a
conventional restoration, the company effectively created a new MGB, rebuilding
the car from the ground up using new or fully reconditioned components
throughout. Heritage shell was sourced and power steering fitted. Their
philosophy is simple: to produce an MGB that drives, looks and feels better than
new.
As with all California Classics rebuilds, no two cars
are identical, each being built to the customer's own specification. This
example was completed in around 2016 and has covered fewer than 3,000 miles
since, meaning it still presents with the freshness one would expect of a newly
built car. The current vendor purchased it directly from California Classics for
a considerable sum and has effectively been its sole custodian since
completion.
Finished in classic British Racing Green with
beautifully trimmed walnut veneers, cream leather upholstery and chrome wire
wheels, the car is every bit as impressive beneath the bonnet as it is to look
at, with an engine bay presented to an exceptional standard. The most recent
MOT, completed in April this year, recorded no advisories, while the engine also
benefited from a fresh oil service at that time.
While no
longer original in every component, this beautifully engineered MGB offers
something arguably even more desirable: the timeless appearance and character of
Abingdon's finest, combined with the confidence and usability of an expertly
rebuilt car. It is an outstanding example that is ready to be driven and enjoyed
from day one.
