This exceptionally genuine and
beautifully presented Morris Minor 6 CWT Pick-Up boasts remarkable provenance,
having originally served as the dealer demonstrator for G.R. Burton & Sons
Ltd of Grantham, Lincolnshire. Supplied new to the dealership on 6th June 1964,
it is accompanied by its original BMC Passport to Service booklet, documenting
its earliest days.
The dealer completed the
pre-delivery inspection before recording the first service at 500 miles on 26th
June 1964. A further service stamp from G.R. Burton & Sons is believed to
coincide with the vehicle's first retail sale later that
year.
Maintenance was subsequently
entrusted to H.J. Willson of Bourne, Lincolnshire, with servicing recorded at
5,570, 8,900, 11,100 and 18,400 miles by August 1966. A further service record
from H. Simmons & Son of Spalding shows the Pick-Up at 65,236 miles in 1970,
indicating it remained in regular commercial use before being sold in 1974 to a
long-term owner in nearby Peterborough.
The Morris then remained with
the same owner for an extraordinary 32 years, during which an exceptional
maintenance record was kept. The history file includes original tax discs, MOT
certificates and a handwritten maintenance log dating back to the
1970s.
When purchased in 1974, the
odometer had rolled over to 550 miles and an oil service was immediately carried
out. Between then and 1978, a further eleven oil and filter changes were
recorded as the mileage increased to 52,737, with little more than routine
maintenance required.
In 1979, at 56,670 miles, the
Pick-Up benefited from a professionally rebuilt engine and a brand-new gearbox.
Over the following decade it continued to receive regular servicing, together
with a new fuel pump, replacement wheel cylinders, brake shoes and other routine
mechanical maintenance.
At 98,646 miles, the load bed
was rebuilt and the engine was re-bored, ensuring the vehicle remained in
first-class mechanical order. From 1989 until its sale in 2006, the Morris
covered just 7,750 miles, reflecting its gradual transition into cherished
classic ownership.
Acquired in 2006 by a
Lincolnshire-based classic car collector, the Pick-Up has covered only around
6,000 miles during the past two decades. Today it presents as a wonderfully
honest older restoration, retaining a tremendous amount of
originality.
The restored paintwork has
matured gracefully, the interior appears largely original with excellent seating
and leatherette seat covers , the canvas tilt remains in very good condition and
the body is structurally outstanding, with a particularly impressive
underside.
Mechanically, the Morris is
every bit as appealing as its history suggests. The rebuilt engine is strong and
eager, the gearbox is smooth and precise, and it has been driven to us by its
long-term owner, demonstrating excellent reliability together with reassuring
steering, braking and road manners.
With just two previous owners
recorded over more than sixty years, an outstanding history file dating back to
new, its original handbook and Passport to Service book, and the rare
distinction of being an original dealer demonstrator, this Morris Minor Pick-Up
stands apart from the vast majority of surviving
examples.
Vehicles with this level of
documented provenance, originality and continuous history are exceptionally
rare, making this a truly special opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts
alike.
