1971 MGB GT
with overdrive fitted; wire wheels; extensive mechanical restoration; over
£5,200 spent on the engine, gearbox and overdrive; comprehensive history
file
First registered in May 1971, this
home-market MGB GT has been owned by the current keeper since 2016. Benefiting
from an older restoration, the car features an alloy bonnet, overdrive gearbox,
Webasto sunroof and wire wheels.
Significant
investment has been made during the current ownership, with over £5,200 spent on
the engine, gearbox and overdrive. The engine was professionally rebuilt by
Dave’s Engine Repair Centre, including a rebored block, new pistons, reground
crankshaft, new camshaft and Ivor Searle cylinder head.
The gearbox and
overdrive have also been rebuilt by specialists, and the car has covered just
1,700 miles since completion, including a recent trouble-free tour of
France.
Further improvements include upgraded
halogen headlights with relays, LED lighting, a high-output alternator, new
battery, refurbished SU carburettors, new cooling system components, upgraded
braking system, new prop shaft, rebuilt rear axle, new rear suspension
components and four new wire wheels.
Additional work has included
extensive electrical improvements, replacement door mechanisms and seals, sound
deadening, and refurbishment of numerous mechanical components
throughout.
Accompanied by a comprehensive
history file containing receipts, books and spare parts, this well-sorted MGB GT
represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a usable and extensively
maintained example of the iconic British sporting coupe.
