Ex-military;
demobbed in 1975; one enthusiast owner from 1978 – 2019; restored with lots of
upgrades including replacement chassis and reconditioned Isuzu 2.8 diesel
engine; recent gearbox rebuild; stainless steel exhaust; Heritage Certificate;
driven 50 miles to the sale
As the Heritage Certificate confirms,
this Land Rover Series IIA 109” was built in February 1964 and was in service
with the British military until being demobbed in September 1975.
From
1978 – 2019 it was owned by a Mr D Hutchinson of Cobham, a Land Rover enthusiast
who spent a great deal of money on the vehicle, as detailed in correspondence
and many invoices on file. Highlights include:
1982 – Completely rewired
and converted from 24v positive earth to 12v negative earth.
1990 – Body
removed and the vehicle was fitted with a reconditioned S2A chassis supplied by
EVE Components Ltd of Bucks, complete with axles, springs and dampers. The
rolling chassis was then delivered to RB Motors of Slough who fitted a fully
reconditioned Isuzu 2.8 diesel engine with a 12,000 mile/12 month warranty which
cost £3,177.
1994 – Fitted with a Quicksilver stainless steel exhaust
system with a lifetime guarantee.
2000 – Chassis Waxoyl
treated.
2006 – Kenlowe fan fitted.
2010 – Entire body media
blasted to bare metal and zinc coated by Cleaning Consultants of Billingshurst
which cost £2,056, followed by a full repaint by Rivett Autos of Cobham which
cost another £2,000.
2011 – Acoustic noise-suppression matting fitted to
the underside of the roof and under the bonnet. Inertia reel seatbelts also
fitted.
2012 - Vehicle security marked and the details logged with The
International Security Register.
2015 – New clutch fitted.
2016 –
Gearbox and transfer assembly rebuilt by R Whitehouse of Stourbridge which cost
£1,260.
2026 – Wheels and front grille shot blasted and powder
coated.
There are various bills for routine servicing over the years,
plus seven old MOTs which show the mileage rising from 90,695 in June 2011 to
92,445 in August 2018, the odometer currently showing 96,115 miles. We do not
currently have a V5C for the vehicle but expect to have this in time for the
sale.
As you can see in the photos and the video, this much-loved S2A is
in great shape for a 62-year old and was driven some 50 miles to the sale. It
has been starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on
site.
