Affectionately known as
the “Grey Lady”; retains both its original engine and chassis; showing 37,094
miles; last serviced in May 2025 at a cost of £1,698
This Alvis
TC21/100 Mulliner Saloon — affectionately known as the “Grey Lady” — was first
registered in 1955 and retains both its original engine and
chassis.
Delivered new to John Blackwood of Beaulieu Lodge, it left the
factory finished in Glasso Grey with a modified rear wing. In 1975 it travelled
to the United States, joining the ownership of Dr Gillette in New York, before
returning to the UK in 1989. At that point it was restored and repainted in its
present maroon and ivory scheme, also acquiring its current registration
number.
Since 2010 the car has benefited from extensive and thoughtful
improvement work, including replacement wiring, an additional cooling fan,
alternator conversion, upgraded lighting, a new fuel tank, clutch, gearbox oil
seals, radiator, rear springs, a correct-type radio with modern internals and a
set of new wheels.
In 2013 a major engine rebuild was undertaken,
comprising a rebore, crank regrind, new camshaft, pistons, valves, springs, cam
followers and a replacement cylinder head skimmed together with the block. The
vendor describes the car as starting and driving beautifully on site for the
photographs and video.
Although correctly registered as a Historic
Vehicle, the vendor has continued to MOT the car annually, and the current V5C
records only one former keeper since 2005. The service history is extremely
comprehensive with the mileage currently showing as 37,094 miles, and any
required maintenance entrusted to an Alvis specialist. It was last serviced in
May 2025 at a cost of £1,698.
The paperwork includes the V5C, MOT to May
2026, nine old MOT certificates, the factory build sheet, photographs, invoices
and two folders of supporting information. A box of spares is also included and
currently in storage.
A well-restored, mechanically sorted and
beautifully maintained example of the elegant TC21/100 “Grey Lady”, offered with
a superb history file and driving as well as it looks — ready to be used and
enjoyed.
