Wonderful Devon Conversions pop-top T2; recently restored over a
four-year period and in super condition throughout; a proper 'home from home'
ready for summer adventures
First registered
in June 1979, this fabulous VW Bay Window Camper benefits from a top quality
Devon Conversion with a pop-top and a beautifully crafted interior that makes
maximum use of the interior space with every convenience you need for a
comfortable life on the road.
Taken off the road
in 2005, it then spent the next 15 years or so unused and in storage. Unearthed
about four years ago, it has since been treated to a meticulous restoration with
the spectacular results you see today. While there are no invoices to show
exactly what has been done, the bulk of the work is recorded on printed sheets
in the history file and the vehicle speaks for itself – just look at
it!
Mechanical work includes a full brake system
overhaul with new discs, calipers, pads, master cylinder, copper pipes and
Goodrich braided stainless steel hoses all round. The rear drums, wheel
cylinders, back plates and shoes were also replaced.
The wheels were all refurbished with new nuts and studs and five new
tyres. A complete new exhaust system and heat exchangers were also
fitted.
The engine has been treated to a new
twin-choke carb and inlet manifold; new electronic distributor, leads and fuel
pump; reconditioned alternator and starter motor.
The interior has been fully refurbished including a complete retrim;
new extending roof canvas pop-top; new cooker, fridge and sink unit; new
Bluetooth CD/radio and new curtains. A new split charging system has also been
fitted.
It has also been treated to a top-quality
repaint in white over blue which complements the interior colour scheme
perfectly.
Starting first turn of the key, it has
been running sweetly as we have moved it around on site, with that lovely
‘elastic band’ power delivery so characteristic of the classic 1,584cc
air-cooled engine. Although it no longer needs one, it has an MOT until 27th May
2026 with no advisories recorded. Nor did it have any advisories on the 2005 MOT
when it was put into storage so you can be sure if was in decent,
roadworthy shape before all the recent works were carried out.
We have sold many dozens of these VW Campers
over the last 20+ years and we can safely say that this high-spec Devon version
is right up there among the very best of them.
Campers of this quality are few and far between and were fetching
£25+ just a few short years ago. This freshly rejuvenated example is on offer at
a fraction of the amount it would cost to restore and is ready for new
adventures.
