A truly rare and remarkably original
example, this 1979 Bedford CF230 CI Trailblazer Camper presents an exceptional
opportunity to acquire a genuine piece of British motoring and leisure history.
Alleged to be one of just three known examples, this historic vehicle combines
rarity with an outstanding ownership record, having been in the same family
since 1981 and carefully preserved ever since.
First registered in March 1979, this 2,279cc petrol camper is paired
with a manual transmission and benefits from the addition of an overdrive gear,
enhancing cruising ability and improving fuel efficiency without compromising
its originality.
Finished in white, the vehicle remains impressively true
to its factory specification, with the interior paintwork and fittings retained
as originally produced, offering an authentic period experience that is
increasingly hard to find.
Purchased by the
vendor’s father in June 1981 as its second owner, the vehicle was later
transferred to the current keeper in June 2000, with no other owners recorded.
It has been garaged continuously since 1981 and was used regularly up until
December 2018, when it was last MOT tested. Now registered as a historic
vehicle, it benefits from its well-documented past, including an impressive
history file with 29 previous MOT certificates and the original Haynes
manual.
During its active years, the camper was
maintained to a high standard, supported by the family’s ownership of a garage
until 2018. The recorded mileage of 77,506 is believed to be genuine,
further enhancing its appeal to collectors and enthusiasts
alike.
After a period of seven years in storage,
the vehicle has recently undergone recommissioning work to bring it back into
running condition. This includes draining and replacing fluids, fitting a new
timing belt, rebuilding the fuel pump, repairing engine wiring, and installing
new ignition components including points, coil, and condenser. Additional work
includes a new V-belt, battery, and a full set of tyres, along with fresh E5
fuel and antifreeze. The total cost of this work amounted to £1,023.31, ensuring
the vehicle is mechanically refreshed and ready for its next
chapter.
It should be noted that the paintwork,
previously described as pristine, has experienced some surface rusting following
a change to the garage door in October 2024, which affected airflow within the
storage space. This presents an opportunity for the next owner to undertake
light cosmetic attention if desired, though it does not detract from the
vehicle’s originality and charm.
With its rarity,
documented provenance, long-term family ownership, and largely original
condition, this Bedford CF230 CI Trailblazer Camper stands as a unique offering
in today’s market. Ideal for collectors, enthusiasts, or those seeking a
characterful and historically significant camper, it is ready to be enjoyed,
preserved, and appreciated for years to come.
