Safari roof; diesel engine; rear bench seats; use-and-improve
condition
First registered
in December 1966, this S2a 109” sadly comes with no real history so we can’t
tell you much about it. Currently fitted with a 2,286cc diesel engine, the
chassis number indicates that it would have originally had a petrol engine,
production records showing that it was a Home Market model supplied new via
Henlys of London finished in Bronze Green.
The
‘C’ suffix indicates that it featured several mechanical updates, including
improvements to the cooling system and the gearbox, which were introduced in
late 1965. Being a 1966 model, it still has the ‘central headlight’ style before
they were moved to the wings in late-1968. Fitted with a Safari roof and rear
bench seats, HPI records that it was colour-changed from Brown/Cream to Green in
late 2012.
Our vendor bought the Land Rover as a
gift for his father in November 2017, the plan being to restore it and take it
to shows. It had flown through an MOT in July 2017 with no advisories recorded
and was in good running order but, as so often happens, other things got in the
way and the restoration was never actually started, the Land Rover being kept in
storage ever since.
As you can see in the
photos, it is very much in its ‘working clothes’ and would benefit from some
tidying up here and there. Starting promptly and running and driving well enough
on site, it would make a useful workhorse as it is and could be spoodled up over
time as desired.
