Description
Part of a considerable private collection; deceased estate; presented
in Flamenco red; showing just under 100,000 miles
Produced between 1975 and 1996, the Jaguar XJ-S was the marque’s
flagship grand tourer, combining sleek styling with a choice of straight-six or
V12 engines. Replacing the E-Type, it offered refined comfort, improved
aerodynamics, and strong performance, making it a distinctive example of
late-20th-century British sports-luxury motoring.
Later models, from 1991 onwards, incorporated numerous refinements
including updated suspension, improved brakes, revised interior detailing, and
modernised engine management systems for smoother performance and reliability.
This 1994 example, finished in eye-catching
Flamenco Red, was the sole Jaguar in the private collection offered in this
deceased estate sale, having been in their ownership since 2015. Positioned
alongside Bentleys and Aston Martins, it appears to have been particularly well
regarded by the family. Equipped with the 4.0-litre AJ6 straight-six, renowned
for its reliability and smooth, strong power delivery, it remains a highly
desirable example of the breed.
Like all the cars
in the collection, this big cat has seen little use in recent years. Last
passing an MOT in 2022 at 97,277 miles, and now showing just 97,761 miles, it
appears the car has changed very little since. It has been MOTd every year since
2005, with only minimal and regular mileage recorded between. The car has also
been driven around our site for photographs and videos, with nothing of note
reported.
The car presents in pretty good order,
having seemingly been stored indoors. The striking red paintwork retains good
depth and shine, with no major dents or scratches, complemented by the silver
five-spoke alloys. Curiously, as with older red cars, the lacquer does show some
wear, the worst of which has been photographed; however, these areas are
isolated and do not detract from the overall appearance. The cream leather
upholstery appears is in fine condition, with no rips or tears, and the
headliner presents as refreshingly well preserved for a car of this
age.
Reassuringly, the cars history file includes
a substantial collection of invoices from the well-known and respected parts
supplier SNG Barratt, covering items such as various seals and a polybush
suspension kit, suggesting the car was subject to regular maintenance. This is
further supported by five official Jaguar service stamps recorded in just the
first three years on the road, suggesting it was highly prized by its early
owners, as well as by our vendors.
In summary,
this XJ-S presents as a very smart and usable example of one of Jaguar’s
best-known coupes, finished in a strong and desirable specification. Keenly
estimated, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire the sole example of the
marque from a high-quality private collection.
